There is one thing, above all others, that will help you make the best use of your time...

October 24, 2018

You will have heard something like this before.

Read on anyway. This one is worth hearing over and over again until it sinks in.

I went for a stroll on the Ridgeway this past Saturday with a man I consider a good friend, even though we have only known each other a few months.

We talk about all sorts of stuff when we meet; most of it real, you know? The kind of things that can really make a difference in our lives or those of the people we aim to help in life.

As we ascended a rise (his word...mine was 'hill'), we got onto the topic of what 'woke him up'. What pulled him out of the stupor we all get caught up in, racking up debt and looking for the bigger house, the flashier car, the fancy clothes, the next killer job...

To avoid a long story, he mentioned that his father and grandfather had died in their early 60's. Given he is in his early 50's, it dawned on him that he may only have 11 or 12 years to do something worthwhile with his life.

I listened to his story, paused a moment, then clarified something between us.

None of us has that much time left.

In 2016, stats showed there was a hit-and-run accident in London every 2 hours.

The victims did not plan that. One moment they are crossing a road. The next moment they are dead or severely injured.

Every morning millions of people do not wake up! This morning, you did! Tomorrow morning, you may not!!

If you are fortunate enough to wake up tomorrow morning, what are you going to do with the day you have ahead of you? How are you going to make it the most worthwhile use of your life? More to the point...what are you not going to waste your life on, knowing the next morning, again, millions of people will not wake up?

How are you going to treat yourself? Others? Will you choose a pleasant day, or an unpleasant one? What daily niggles will you let 'get to you'?

Bring this back to each moment you live. If there are such forces outside of your control that could end your life in the next moment, crossing the road...HOW ARE YOU GOING TO ENGAGE IN EACH MOMENT to live your life to the fullest?

Fully engaging in each moment is where happiness lies.

Not in attainment or some future condition. It is only now.

To live fully, acknowledge death. It is an indiscernible part of life...that which makes living your best life so important.

When you do this, all fear will go and anything you do, you will do with all your focus.
